Summary
MLA and the Zanda MacDonald Award Association have agreed to partner under a collaborative research program to support and further develop the Zanda MacDonald Award program for a three-year period. The investment forms part of the innovation capability sub-program industry leadership imperative, developing enhanced leadership capability and impactful industry leaders and ambassadors for MLA.
Objectives
To further develop and make a positive difference in Australasian agriculture by:
1. Identifying individuals between 21–35 years who show promise as leaders or positive influencers, to enhance their careers in agriculture and pastoral industries.
2. Providing inspiration, vision, relevant training and tailored mentoring to individuals involved in the Zanda McDonald Award programme.
3. Facilitating greater co-operation and fostering strong relationships between agricultural and pastoral industries across Australia and New Zealand, with the view of promoting the development of Australasian agricultural and pastoral resources.
4. Nurturing intergenerational engagement in the agricultural and pastoral industries with a view to sharing knowledge in a mentoring capacity.
5. Promoting and rewarding excellence in individuals under 35 years of age who are engaged in the agricultural or pastoral industries in Australia or New Zealand and are contributing to the development of Australian agricultural or pastoral resources.
6. Be the preferred award to be part of in Australasian agriculture, by anyone associated with it.

The insights gathered from alumni highlight the award’s significant contributions to personal and professional development, reinforcing its value to sponsors committed to supporting emerging leaders in the agricultural sector.

In its 10-year journey, the Zanda McDonald Award has successfully fulfilled its vision of being a valued trans-Tasman accolade, nurturing future leaders in agriculture through tailored mentoring. By identifying promising individuals and providing them with inspiration, training, and mentorship, the award has contributed significantly to the advancement of Australasian agriculture.
MLA action
Building on the success of the project, MLA will invest in the further development of the Zanda McDonald Award and Innovation Summit over the next three years.

Looking ahead, the Zanda McDonald Award remains steadfast in its commitment to evolving and meeting the ever-changing needs of the agricultural sector, ensuring a bright future for the industry and its leaders.
