Summary

On 20 and 21 August 2024, a BeefUp Forum was held at Kidman Springs Station (Victoria River Research Station) in the Victoria River District of the NT. The event attracts producers and industry members to hear about and see current RDE&A activities happening in their area. This BeefUp Forum was run by NT DAF and MLA and was the first NT DAF BeefUp Forum funded via an MDC agreement.

Objectives

The objective was to hold a BeefUp Forum at Kidman Springs that was attended by at least 20 producers as well as other industry members (representing six million hectares of pastoral land), increase awareness/knowledge of RDE&A of at least 90% of attendees, return an average satisfaction score of at least 8/10 and provide a platform for MLA and NT DAF to highlight programs/projects to producers. All objectives were met.

Key findings

The BeefUp Forum was successfully run as planned with great engagement from attendees and positive feedback on the whole event.

Benefits to industry

The BeefUp Forum enabled industry to see and hear about a range of relevant, local research all in one place. Industry members were able to network with peers, researchers, government employees and advisors in a familiar, social setting.

MLA action

The BeefUp Forum enabled industry to see and hear about a range of relevant, local research all in one place. Industry members were able to network with peers, researchers, government employees and advisors in a familiar, social setting.

Future research

The informal structure of the event and a social atmosphere worked well for the audience and the location at Kidman Springs. A key recommendation is to assess how more producers could attend the event in the future and how to better promote it to a more targeted audience.
