Summary

A commercial partner was acquired to identify potential seed crops of the Leucaena cv Redlands, then to harvest, clean and market the seed, thus providing producers with access to seed of this important variety.

Objectives

  • support the participant to assess and carry out seed harvesting where it would not otherwise occur due to higher travel costs
  • increase the availability of Redlands seed to support adoption.

Key findings

Seed was harvested as contracted and has subsequently been sold to producers.

Benefits to industry

Availability of planting seed of this important tropical legume.

MLA action

May need a future round of support to see greater volumes of seed produced of this important variety.

Future research

Depending on the need, additional rounds of assistance to see more seed harvested may be necessary.
