Summary

NLIS NCOM is the oldest component performing a key part of the internal engine of NLIS. It was developed almost 20 years ago. NLIS NCOM works as the underlying service to process requests that come to NLIS from various channels and work with other backend sub-systems to execute the requests and return the results.

Following the planned successful delivery of the NIMBUS Framework as part of the PoC to Pilot production rollout with the latest cloud architecture, the incoming consultant resource will be joining hands with ISC SMEs to implement, test and release the identified key NLIS transactions in a phased manner enabling the NLIS to cater to the impending Goat and Sheep EID specifications. The project timeline was extended in part to cater to the prolonged external UAT period and unexpected production issues.

•    This investment addressed the pressing needs of the current state NLIS especially considering the National Sheep & Goat EID requirements.
•    Under the current contract, ending in December’24, the project with the contracted resource delivered 35/43 transactions under the newly developed transaction handler - NIMBUS . These include Tags, Kills, PIC, Mob based & a large part of Transfers and Reports via the newly developed NIMBUS engine which massively improved the capability of NLIS in handling the multiple transactions (requests) to the NLIS database
•    Non-regular transactions such as Reports, Query and Retrieve results needed extensive testing due to the variety and volume pushing the project timeline.

Objectives

Building new services, productionising & optimising the implemented transaction services as part of the newly introduced distributed transactions handler – NIMBUS (NLIS Internal Module for Backend Unified Services) replacing legacy NCOM engine of NLIS.

Benefits to industry

Improved reliability, throughput capability, significant reduction in failure points and massive improvement in error handling and monitoring for the NLIS transactions.

Future research

No. This was on the current state NLIS, with shiny new NLIS uplift round the corner no investment is needed on NLIS 1.0
