How did Australia’s September exports perform?
September exports of Australian beef rose 22% year-on-year (YoY) to 139,012 tonnes. This is the second-highest monthly export figure on record, resulting in the most recent quarter being the largest quarter for beef exports on record, at 425,018 tonnes.

Beef exports still fuelled by global demand
Beef exports lifted 11% year-on-year (YoY) to 135,571 tonnes. This is the largest August volume on record, and the second largest overall monthly volume on record after the July volume. Most of this month’s lift came from North Asia. The United States (US) remained the largest market for the month, with exports easing 1% YoY to 40,754 tonnes. The consistently high 2025 export results continue to reflect strong US demand.

Indonesia drives highest cattle exports since 2021
Australia’s live cattle trade strengthened in FY2024–25, lifting 4% from FY2023–24 to 779,541 head. This represents the highest export figure since 2021 and signifies both a consistent supply of northern Australian cattle and solid export market demand.

Australian beef exports – why are records continually broken?
Australian beef exports have broken the monthly all-time volume record for the fourth time over a twelve-month period. Total beef exports in July hit 150,435 tonnes – a 16% lift from July 2024 figures and a 12% increase on the previous record, set just one month earlier in June.

Aussie lamb exports forging global competitiveness
Australian lamb export value exceeded A$4 billion for the first time over a 12-month period and was up 14% year-on-year (YoY) figures. Export volume was slightly lower (-1%), but still the second highest ever at 363,109 tonnes shipped weight (swt).

Lamb exports fell 4% from January last year to 24,177 tonnes. Despite the decline, January 2025 export numbers still reached the second largest on record for January. This is broadly in line with the high slaughter volumes seen towards the end of 2024.
