Did you know weeds are estimated to cost Australian livestock industries $3 billion every year through control costs and lost production?

In May, MLA launched a new initiative promoting strategic weed management for pasture productivity and persistence in southern farming systems.

The benefits of weed control, with a seasonal focus on winter cleaning, were promoted through newsletters, digital channels, social media and newspapers.

This tied into the launch of a new weed control resource hub, bringing together new and existing R&D covering five steps of weed control:

Awareness > detection > prevention > planning > intervention

The hub features a range of regionally-relevant and practical resources including:

  • ID and seasonal management guides
  • case studies
  • new ‘how-to’ factsheets
  • online training modules.

Over 13,000 users visited the hub in just six weeks!

The weed control hub is one of four feedbase resource hubs that together give producers a toolkit to improve pasture health and productivity through integrated management strategies.

The supporting hubs include healthy soils and persistent pastures. Keep an eye out for the new legumes hub, launching soon!

To keep the momentum going, we’re asking you to share our links and materials through your networks.
