Summary
A school of thought exists in the livestock industry that in light of higher sheep meat prices, sheep reproduction efficiency should be a priority for many sheep producers in Australia. However, there is little evidence that the average marking rate for the Australian sheep industry has improved over the past 15 years. Furthermore, there is little compelling evidence that technologies and management practices that have been promoted by R&D oriented organizations as best practice reproduction management techniques and systems have been broadly adopted by industry.
This paper is the final report on an investigation into this phenomenon and makes recommendations as to the future management of best practice sheep reproduction innovations.
