Summary

The Australian AgriFood Data Exchange (AAFDX) project seeks to define and articulate the business case for investment in an industry owned data exchange with a vision to create 'an interconnected data highway for Australia’s AgriFood value chain'. The purpose of the AAFDX is to provide a centralised mechanism for the exchange of data between participants in the agrifood value chain.

Objectives

The independent chairperson for the Australian AgriFood Data Exchange’s Steering Committee was appointed based on his industry/sector expertise, previous governance of multi-stakeholder initiatives and existing industry networks. His core responsibilities in this role are: decision making (deadlock), dispute resolution, project governance and direction, and government and Industry advocacy for project.

Key findings

The AAFDX will allow agrifood industry data owners control over what data they would like to share and with whom. This will unlock potential opportunites with their data and enable collaboration across the supply chain.
