Summary
This project was aimed at simultaneously demonstrating the value of drones, with sensors and software, to Australian producers, whilst ensuring the long-term application of these solutions evolve to fully autonomous solutions.
This project worked with Aerodyne, Malaysia’s largest drone service provider, to further develop drone offerings into a fully autonomous service. The successful platform has resulted in drones being a ‘quiet service’ to Australian producers by automatically undertaking their tasks, without a producer tethered to the controls. The service will then provide summary reports and push notifications when producer decisions or interactions are required.
Objectives
The main objectives of this project were to:
- ensure all existing drone use applications will be occurring fully autonomously
- develop new algorithms for automating livestock monitoring
- develop producer user interfaces.
Key findings
An intelligent Livestock Management System (iLAMS) platform was developed as a commercial scale proof of concept.
The solution was capable of optimizing operations using UAS and AI technology solution that would help producers to reduce the need for manual labour and gain monetary benefits in the long run.
Benefits to industry
This project demonstrates to the Australian red meat industry that drones can be a ‘quiet service’ and operate without a producer tethered to the controls.
MLA action
MLA will engage with key producers to further develop use case value propositions supporting the adoption of UAV sensing platforms as a component of digital data capture solutions for the industry.
