Want to be a BredWell FedWell deliverer?

07 July 2023

The relaunched BredWell FedWell (BWFW) workshops have hit the ground running, with six events planned over the next three months. MLA is now calling for more individuals to deliver the southern cattle, northern cattle and sheep programs.

BWFW is a practical, one-day introductory workshop on how productivity and profitability can be improved through good breeding and feeding over the livestock production cycle, with a specific focus on profit drivers.

After approximately 10 years of delivering BWFW, MLA reviewed the program throughout 2021 and 2022. This year, BWFW programs for southern cattle, northern cattle and sheep have been relaunched with a new focus on balanced, relevant information that producers can utilise throughout the production cycle.

Expressions of interest to deliver the program nationally are now open, with a ‘Train the trainer’ session set to be held in November 2023.

Eligibility criteria

Ideally, deliverers will have:

  • five years' experience working in the red meat industry
  • experience setting breeding objectives for livestock
  • an understanding of nutritional requirements for animals through different stages of production.

A full list of criteria is available in the deliverer terms of reference

What’s in it for you?

Dr Sarita Guy, MLA’s Project Manager – Genetics Adoption, says there are benefits for consultants who deliver the BWFW program.

“The deliverers of BredWell FedWell are crucial to increasing Australian red meat producers’ knowledge of the genetic factors and nutritional requirements that make an animal fit for purpose,” she said.

“This program allows consultants to not only increase the knowledge of their current clients, but to also make connections with producers that they may not currently work with."
