Feeding, finishing & nutrition
Nutrition is a critical factor influencing the success of a livestock enterprise – without good nutrition animals cannot achieve their genetic potential.
MLA is committed to helping producers increase productivity and profitability by investing in feeding, finishing and nutrition R&D.
Areas of research include:

Meeting market specifications
When selecting a target market, it is important to consider the nutrition required by the animal to achieve a particular specification in the particular production environment.
MLA’s investment in feeding, finishing and nutrition R&D has delivered a suite of tools and resources to help producers meet market specifications for their chosen markets.
A key tool – developed by MLA, the NSW Department of Primary Industries and other key collaborators – is the BeefSpecs calculator. This calculator can be used to help assess feeding requirements to meet market specifications in both grassfed and grainfed cattle enterprises.
