Largest store sale at Roma so far this year

Numbers surged for the first week of the new financial year, lifting 42% to pen 28,667 at NLRS reported saleyards across the state. Roma Store accounted for much of the rise, with consignments nearly doubling to 12,242 head (the largest yarding for the year so far), while Warwick lifted 68%, to pen 1,580 head, and Roma Prime added an extra 41% to its total, at 1,481 head. Toowoomba Elders and Landmark increased to 822 head and 512 head, respectively, while numbers at Dalby were relatively unchanged week-on-week, for another large yarding of 5,344 head. Supply at Emerald was 17% higher, totalling 3,026 head, with Gracemere registering a rise of 29%, at around 3,650 head.

Strong restocker and feeder presence assists prices

Calves weighing over 80kg generally eased in price this week, with those to restock back by as much as 21¢ and averaging between 216¢ and 258¢/kg. Light weight D2 vealer steers, also to restockers, trended 37¢ dearer, at 276¢, while their heifer counterparts lifted 11¢ and averaged 222¢/kg. Light C2 yearling steers returned to the paddock 13¢ to 30¢ dearer, with most averaging from 301¢ to 308¢, while the medium C3’s to feeders gained 4¢, on 293¢, and the heavy weights eased slightly to settle around 276¢/kg. Light D2 yearling heifers to restock jumped 26¢, averaging 268¢/kg.

Medium and heavy weight C3 grown steers to feed on lifted by up to 11¢, with averages between 250¢ and 260¢/kg. Those to slaughter sold in a similar price range, being up to 24¢ dearer in places.  Light D3 cows to process eased 6¢, averaging 184¢, while the medium and heavy weights sold 8¢ higher and mostly returned vendors from 208¢ to 219¢/kg.
