Throughput increases
Overall numbers lifted by 37% week-on-week, to total 3,134 head. Consignments at Naracoorte more than doubled, to offer 1,147 head, while numbers at Mount Gambier increased by 50%, to 783 head. SA Livestock Exchange yarded 354 head, up 9% and throughput at Mount Compass declined 3%, to offer 850 head.
Cattle prices lift
Medium weight C2 vealer steers to feeders returned 296¢, up 5¢, while similar steers to restockers gained 24¢, to average 304.7¢/kg. Heavy weight C3’s to slaughter were 5¢ dearer and returned an average of 316.7¢/kg. Medium weight C2 vealer heifers to feed eased 13¢ to 283¢ and C3’s to processors returned an average of 315.4¢, up 4¢/kg. Yearling C2 medium weight steers to restockers were 16¢ dearer, on 292.2¢, while C3 bought by processors remained firm on 300.3¢/kg. Heavy weight C3 yearling steers reached 304¢ and averaged 298.6¢, while those to slaughter eased 2¢ to return 298.5¢/kg. The heifer portion returned 292.7¢ for medium weight C3’s to slaughter, up 3¢ while heavy weights slipped 19¢ to 281.1¢/kg.
Heavy weight grown steers to processors reached 307¢ and settled on 293¢, to be 5¢/kg dearer. Light C3 grown heifers to slaughter gained 11¢, averaging 280¢, and the heavy weight portion made 271.9¢, up 9¢/kg. Heavy D3 cows sold to processors reached 257¢ and gained 11¢, to return an average of 239.2¢/kg.
