Four reasons to attend the Leucaena Network events

A series of events held by the MLA-sponsored Leucaena Network are designed to take out the guesswork, minimise mistakes and maximise your returns when establishing and managing leucaena. The events include a conference, field trip and training days.

Here’s why northern producers should consider attending:

1. To increase profits. There are more than 250,000 ha of leucaena grass pastures grown by Queensland producers.  Hear how some of these producers are driving up their productivity and profitability first-hand by grazing leucaena.
2. To find out the latest science. Engage with a field of top class industry scientists who will discuss the latest cutting edge information and opportunities to feed and grow leucaena to maximise beef production.
3. To see the new pysllid resistant leucaena variety, Redlands. Redlands will be viewed growing in the paddock as part of a palatability trial being tested against existing leucaena varieties.  
4. To network with other producers. Learn first-hand how others are making the most from leucaena in their enterprises.

Key dates

The conference is held at the Walkamin Research Station, Queensland on 11-14 May:

• 11 and 14 May: In depth "seeding to grazing" training sessions for producers considering growing leucaena or wanting to enhance their production.
• 12 May: Conference and industry dinner with guest speaker Emma Golder, Export Manager, JBS Australia, Brisbane.
• 13 May: View the paddock palatability trials of four leucaena varieties, newly seeded leucaena planted in between existing trees and the legume and grass evaluation trial site at Whitewater Station.
