Cattle numbers increase

Cattle consignments in NSW increased by 16% week-on-week, for a total of 21,686 head, with the rise partially due to the inclusion of Moss Vale as a reported market. Wagga added 13% and yarded 4,350 cattle, as Forbes lost 21% week-on-week, at 1,104 head. Tamworth slipped 19% and penned 980 head, with CTLX increasing by 9%, to 2,521 head. Gunnedah added 31% and yarded 1,800 cattle, while Inverell increased by 24%, for 1,127 head.  Scone lifted 32%, at 1,321 cattle, with Singleton slipping 16%, for a total of 720 head. Armidale increased 5%, yarding 1,309 head, while Casino slipped 13% and offered 1,463 cattle. Dubbo lifted 22%, to pen 3,550 head, as Moss Vale offered 1,441 cattle.

Prices improve

The medium weight vealer steers returning to the paddock gained 9¢, as prices averaged 294¢, with the best at 328¢/kg. The vealer heifers lifted from 6¢ to 15¢, making from 220¢ to 318¢/kg. 

Medium weight yearling steers to lot feeder orders trended 10¢ dearer, as prices averaged 310¢ after reaching 330¢, with the best heavy weights topping at 332¢/kg. The medium weight yearling heifers to lot feeder orders lifted 13¢, with the majority around the 286¢/kg range.

Prime conditioned younger cattle to the butchers gained from 2¢ to 5¢, as the best heavy weight yearling steer topped at 341¢/kg.

Heavy weight grown steers suitable for slaughter improved 8c, with the majority around the 303¢/kg range. Cows averaged from 7¢ to 11¢ dearer, as the plainer 2 scores averaged 190¢, with the better finished 3 and 4 scores selling from 182¢ to 260¢/kg. Heavy weight bulls reached 284¢/kg.
