NSW weekly cattle summary

Numbers increase
Cattle consignments in NSW increased by 22%, week-on-week, for a total of 19,641 head.
- Wagga slipped by 28%, to pen 2,000 head, as Tamworth yarded similar consignments for a total of 1,492 cattle
- CTLX added 14% to its total for 1,400 head, while Scone more than doubled at 1,047 cattle
- Inverell and Gunnedah more than doubled their numbers for 1,080 and 2,300 cattle respectively
- Singleton nearly doubled at 720 head, with Armidale halving its consignments for 340 cattle
- Forbes gained 19% for 1,641 cattle, while Moss Vale lifted 10% to yard 541 head
- Casino decreased 7% to total 1,230 head, as Dubbo lifted by 29% to pen 5,150 cattle
Prices lift
The medium weight vealer steers returning to the paddock averaged 3¢ cheaper, making from 280¢ to 345¢, as the heavier weights lifted 10¢ to reach 349¢/kg. The vealer heifers trended 2¢ to 10¢ dearer to sell from 228¢ to 320¢/kg, with those to the trade showing the greater gains.
The medium and heavy weight yearling steers to the lot feeder orders sold 1¢ to 3¢ dearer to average from 323¢ to 328¢, as the best reached 346¢/kg. The bulk of the unfinished yearling heifers trended 3¢ dearer, making around the 298¢ range, as the best reached 325¢/kg. The prime conditioned younger cattle to the butchers sold firm to 3¢ higher, with the best reaching 363¢/kg.
The heavy weight grown steers suitable for slaughter maintained solid values, with the majority around the 304¢ to 332¢, as the best topped at 362¢/kg. The plainer cows sold 2¢ cheaper, as the 2 scores averaged 217¢/kg. The better finished heavier weights sold 3¢ dearer to range from 215¢ to 285¢, while heavy weight bulls reached 312¢/kg.
