Numbers decline
Cattle consignments in NSW eased by 26%, week-on-week, for a total of 20,594 head, with the Monday public holiday the contributing factor.
- Wagga, Tamworth and Forbes were cancelled due to the holiday
- CTLX increased by 24% for 3,260 head, while Scone lifted 8% for a penning of 1,288 cattle
- Inverell gained 10% for 1,392 head, as Gunnedah lifted 16% to total 3,500 cattle
- Singleton increased by 20% to total 740 head, with Armidale adding an extra 6% for 587 cattle.
- Casino lifted by 9% for a total of 1,300 head, as Dubbo increased by 3% to pen 7,600 cattle.
Prices ease
Cheaper trends were evident throughout all categories, as the medium weight vealer steers returning to the paddock slipped 15¢, making from 260¢ to 360¢/kg. The vealer heifers sold 11¢ cheaper to sell from 250¢ to 331¢/kg.
The medium weight yearling steers to the lot feeder orders sold 18¢ lower to range from 260¢ to 336¢, with the heavier end trending as much as 25¢ cheaper to average 303¢/kg. The bulk of the unfinished yearling heifers slipped by 15¢ to 22¢/kg. The prime conditioned younger cattle to the butchers also trended cheaper by 20¢ in places; however the best still topped at 369¢/kg.
The heavy weight grown steers suitable for slaughter lost from 25¢ to 30¢, making from 240¢ to 310¢/kg. Cows sold from 13¢ to 25¢ cheaper, as the plainer 2 scores averaged 209¢, with the better covered 3 and 4 score heavy weights making from 210¢ to 268¢/kg. The heavy weight bulls reached 320¢, around 15¢ to 20¢/kg cheaper compared to the last market.
