SA weekly cattle summary

Numbers lift

Yarding’s reached a total of 3,573 head, up 16%.

  • Mount Gambier throughput gained 4% to offer 1,004 head
  • Numbers at Mount Compass eased by 13% to yard 720 head
  • Naracoorte almost doubled in size to 1,504 head
  • The SA Livestock Exchange consigned 25% less cattle at 345 head

Cattle prices ease

Medium weight C3 vealer steers to processors gained 10¢ to average 332¢, while heavy weight heifers eased 1¢ to 326.4¢/kg.

Yearling heavy weight steers in the C3 category eased 19¢ to 318.5¢/kg. Most C3 medium weight yearling heifers to processors reached 341¢ and averaged 310.5¢, back 2¢, while heavy weights eased 13¢ to 304.5¢/kg.

Heavy weight grown steers sold to 341¢ and averaged 320.7¢, easing 15¢/kg. Light weight grown heifers also eased in price, back 10¢ to 301¢/kg. Manufacturing steers gained 3¢ to average 263.3¢/kg.

Heavy D3 cows to slaughter sold at an average price of 269.9¢, to be 6¢ cheaper.
