SA weekly sheep summary

Lambs
Lamb throughput remained steady week-on-week, with 11,338 head penned.
- The SA Livestock Exchange offered 10,117 head, to be firm on last week
- Numbers at Naracoorte eased 2%, to 1,221 head
Light weight 3 score new season lambs to processors were 54¢ cheaper, on 538¢/kg cwt. The 3 score trade weights were significantly cheaper, selling between 486¢ and 527¢ and averaging 507¢/kg cwt. The 4 score trade weight were also cheaper, easing 61¢ to 537¢/kg cwt. Heavy weight 4 score lambs to slaughter sold from 517¢ and 592¢ and averaged 559¢, back 34¢, while extra heavy weights slipped 32¢ and averaged 575¢/kg cwt.
Light weight 3 score Merino old lambs eased 51¢ and averaged 463¢, while the crossbred trade weight 3 scores to slaughter were 39¢ dearer on 551¢/kg cwt. Heavy weight 3 score lambs to slaughter reached 596¢ and were back by 116¢, to average 460¢/kg cwt.
Mutton
Total mutton throughput jumped 17%, to total 3,527 head.
- Supply at the SA Livestock Exchange increased by 7%%, to 2,622 head
- Naracoorte consignments lifted to 905 head, up 65% week-on-week
Heavy weight 3 score ewes to processors were 24¢ easier, averaging 292¢ while Merinos slipped 14¢ to return an average of 292¢/kg cwt.
Merino wethers sold between 318¢ and 362¢ and averaged 333¢, back 64¢/kg cwt.
