Lamb

Lamb supply across the state lifted 18% week-on-week, to offer 23,463 head in total.

• Numbers at Hamilton more than doubled, penning 5,125 head
• Supply at Horsham nearly halved to 1,808 head
• Bendigo throughput remained reasonably steady, lifting 1% to 9,412 head
• Ballarat penned 33% more lambs, with 7,118 head in total

Light weight 1 score lambs to restockers averaged 479¢, while 2 score Merinos returned 517¢, back 20¢/kg. First cross lambs averaged 512¢, back 38¢ and those to slaughter remained firm on 554¢/kg cwt.

Trade weight 3 score lambs to processors were 5¢ cheaper, on 592¢, and heavier trade types averaged 581¢, up 11¢/kg cwt.

Heavy weight 3 score lambs sold to processors between 14¢ and 31¢ cheaper, with lighter descriptions averaging 586¢ and heavier types returning 601¢/kg cwt.

Mutton

Mutton supply lifted 12% week-on-week, to 17,041 head.

• Horsham’s numbers increased by 10%, to 2,230 head
• Supply at Bendigo reached 9,331 head, up 21%
• Throughput in Hamilton jumped 77%, to 2,654 head
• Ballarat penned a reduced yarding of 2,826 head

Light weight 1 score Merino ewes were 11¢ cheaper, on 357¢, while 2 scores were 10¢ cheaper, on 373¢/kg cwt. The medium weight 2 score Merino ewes returned an average of 372¢, up 2¢/kg cwt.

Medium 2 score Merino wethers gained 16¢, to average 374¢, and 3 score Merinos were 2¢ dearer on 395¢/kg cwt. Those in the heavy weight category slipped 4¢, to 413¢/kg cwt.
