Vic weekly sheep summary

Lamb

Lamb consignments remained steady week-on-week, with 15,819 head offered.

  • Hamilton throughput more than tripled, to pen 2,866 head
  • Horsham offered 1,715 head, up 3%
  • Consignments at Bendigo eased by 19%, to 7,158 head
  • Ballarat offered 9% fewer lambs, at 4,080 head

Trade weight 3 score new season lambs gained 9¢, reaching 651¢, and averaged 623¢/kg cwt. Heavy weights were 16¢ dearer, selling between 583¢ and 652¢ and averaging 639¢/kg cwt.

Light 2 score old lambs averaged 474¢ and 486¢/kg cwt for Merino and first cross lambs, respectively, with both being slightly dearer. Trade weight 3 scores to slaughter were 37¢ dearer, on 615¢, while heavy weights eased 8¢, to 568¢/kg cwt.

Mutton

Mutton numbers reached 18,778 head, representing a 27% increase week-on-week.

  • Horsham throughput doubled to pen 4,276 head
  • Supply at Bendigo increased by 9%, to 10,989 head
  • Numbers at Hamilton near tripled to 1,410 head
  • Ballarat consigned 2,103 head, back 10%

The 1 score Merino light weight ewes sold to a top of 438¢ and averaged 400¢, up 17¢/kg cwt. Medium weight 2 scores were 21¢ dearer on 382¢ while heavy weight first cross 4 score ewes eased 9¢ to 339¢/kg cwt.

Light weight 2 score Merino wethers reached 439¢ and averaged 407¢, up 31¢/kg cwt. 2 score medium weight  Merino wethers made 384¢, up 10¢ and 3 scores lifted 40¢ to 410¢/kg cwt.
