Vic weekly sheep summary

Lamb

Lamb supply increased 7% this week with 29,811 head yarded. Horsham throughput lifted 55% to offer 3,786 head, while Hamilton recorded a decline of 7%, penning 4,987 head. Ballarat and Bendigo numbers reached 11,019 head and 10,019 head, respectively, up 6% and 4% on last week’s levels.

Light weight 2 score lambs to slaughter eased 42¢ to average 557¢, while 2 score Merino lambs were back 33¢ to 528¢/kg cwt. Lighter trade weights sold to processors were back 28¢, averaging 601¢, while heavier trade weight lambs averaged 598¢, back 26¢/kg cwt. Heavy weight lambs to slaughter slipped 38¢, averaging 596¢/kg cwt.

Mutton

Victoria mutton throughput jumped 34% this week, to total 16,752 head. Numbers at Hamilton increased 75% to 3,564 head, while supply at Bendigo lifted 50% to 5,846 head. Horsham penned 2,882 head, up 28%, while consignments to Ballarat were 6% higher, at 4,460 head.

Light weight 2 score Merino ewes were back 20¢, returning 368¢, while medium weight 3 score Merino ewes averaged 382¢, easing 31¢/kg cwt. Heavy weight 3 score crossbred ewes slipped 11¢ to 363¢, while 4 score crossbred ewes lost 19¢ to average 355¢/kg cwt.
