Vic weekly sheep summary

Lamb

Total lamb supply dropped by 23% week-on-week, with 33,314 head penned. Numbers at Horsham lifted by 3% to offer 5,212 lambs, while consignments at Hamilton fell by 4% to 5,531 head. Throughput at both Ballarat and Bendigo slipped, with the yarding at Bendigo back by 37% to 10,186 head and Ballarat supply eased by 24% to 12,385 head.

Light weight 2 score Merino lambs remained firm on 540¢, while those to slaughter lifted 14¢ to average 605¢ and heavier light weights returned 623¢, up 20¢/kg cwt. Light trade weights in the 3 score category to processors gained 37¢ to average 628¢, while heavier 3 score trade weight lambs were 34¢ dearer on 612¢/kg cwt. Heavy weight 3 score lambs to slaughter returned an average of 605¢, up 30¢/kg cwt.

Mutton

Mutton throughput eased 21% this week with consignments reaching 12,380 head. Supply at Bendigo remained steady at 6,008 head penned and numbers at Horsham lifted by 38% to 1,803 head. Consignments at Ballarat near halved to offer 2,913 head, while supply at Hamilton dropped by 38% to 1,656 head.

Light weight 2 score Merino ewes were 59¢ dearer on 416¢, while medium weight 3 score Merino ewes averaged 432¢, up 41¢/kg cwt. Heavy weight first cross ewes lifted by 16¢ to 389¢/kg cwt. Most 2 score Merino wethers eased 15¢, to 390¢ and 6¢, to 398¢/kg cwt for light weights and heavy weights respectively.
