Lamb
Victorian lamb throughput increased by 36% week-on-week, with a total of 46,987 head yarded in MLA reported saleyards.
- Bendigo consignments jumped by 32% to 22,309 head
- Ballarat lamb supply reached 9,670 head, up 26%
- Horsham yardings totalled 13,999 head, representing an increase of 60%
- Hamilton recorded a decrease in lamb throughput, down 21% on 1,009 head
Light weight crossbred new season lambs were bought by restockers for up to 669¢ and were 9¢ dearer, averaging 568¢ while heavier light weight lambs returned to the paddock for 532¢, back 5¢/kg cwt. The 3 score crossbred trade weights to slaughter reached 592¢ and averaged 552¢ for lighter types, up 10¢ and heavier trade weights made 542¢, up 4¢/kg cwt.
Old Merino lambs in the 2 score light weight category slipped 38¢, selling between 220¢ and 438¢ and averaging 418¢/kg cwt.
Mutton
Sheep consignments increased 19% week-on-week, with 24,703 head yarded across the state.
- Bendigo consignments totalled 11,668 head, up 12%
- Ballarat numbers were reduced by 9%, to 4,597 head
- Hamilton supply remained reasonably firm on 1,413 head, up 1%
- Horsham supply increased by 78%, with 7,025 head yarded.
Medium weight 2 score Merino ewes gained 3¢ to average 348¢ and while slightly heavier Merino ewes eased 5¢ to 340¢/kg cwt.
Heavy weight 3 score Merino wethers sold between 310¢ and 367¢ and average 354¢, up 17¢/kg cwt. Heavy weight Merino wethers returned 351¢ for 3 scores, back 10¢ and 353¢ for 4 scores, to be also back 10¢/kg.
