Vic weekly sheep summary

Lamb

Victorian lamb supply reached 34,551 head, up 1% week-on-week, with strong yardings across most MLA reported saleyards.

  • Bendigo consignments totalled 16,845 head, down 2%
  • Ballarat lamb supply increased by 1%, to offer 7,706 head
  • Horsham yardings jumped 12%, to 8,727 head
  • Hamilton throughput slipped 20%, to 1,273 head

Light weight 2 score new season lambs to restockers sold from 439¢ to 621¢ and averaged 559¢, back 26¢/kg cwt week-on-week. Light weight 2 score new season lambs to slaughter reached 623¢ and averaged 541¢, up 8¢/kg cwt. Light trade weight 3 score crossbred lambs increased 8¢, to average 539¢, while heavier trade weights to processors reached 583¢ and averaged 537¢, up 3¢/kg cwt. Heavy weight 3 score new season lambs eased 22¢, to return 517¢/kg cwt.

Light weight old 3 score Merino lambs slipped 44¢, to average 452¢/kg cwt. The 2 score crossbred trade lambs were 54¢ easier, on 389¢/kg cwt. Heavier trade weight crossbred lambs to slaughter increased 1¢, to 485¢/kg cwt. The 3 score heavy old lambs to slaughter sold between 373¢ to 513¢, averaging 444¢, down 86¢/kg cwt.

Mutton

Sheep consignments eased 18% week-on-week, with 20,819 head yarded across the state.

  • Bendigo consignments totalled 10,442 head, down 20%
  • Ballarat numbers eased 8% to 5,028 head
  • Hamilton supply declined 18%, to 1,405 head
  • Horsham yarded 22% less sheep, at 3,944 head

Light weight 2 score Merino hoggets were 20¢ easier, on 360¢, while light weight 1 score Merino ewes sold between 115¢ to 371¢, to average 276¢, slipping 54¢/kg cwt.

Medium weight 2 score Merino ewes to processors reached 400¢ and settled on 345¢, to be 22¢/kg cwt cheaper. First-cross 4 score ewes slipped 59¢, to average 260¢/kg cwt. Heavy 3 score Merino wethers sold between 279¢ and 404¢, averaging 361¢, back 32¢/kg cwt.
