A unique period of time for beef production

09 May 2018

Speaking at a number of seminars at Beef Australia this week, MLA’s Market Intelligence Manager, Scott Tolmie, says Australia is well placed in the global beef market but a targeted approach is required to ensure Australia stays ahead of the game.

“Global beef demand has increased by 25% in the last 30 years,” Scott said.
“This brings plenty of opportunity for Australia, but at the same time competition is intensifying.

“We are currently in a unique point of time for production with four major global beef producing countries, the US, Brazil, India and Australia entering a phase of consistent growth.

“It’s a bit like four footy teams hitting form at the same time, everyone is chasing the same goal.

“What we need to do is be confident in our strategy, develop a deeper understanding of consumer preferences in our key export markets and highlight Australia’s main points of difference against our main competitors as we go for growth.”
