Summary

In 2003, Maunsell Australia undertook a project (LIVE.116) to develop a planning model to reduce the incidence of heat stress in livestock transported by sea to the Middle East.  The model has been applied in all livestock shipments to the Middle East since its development.  From a transport of livestock perspective, the model is unique and  adds to the global understanding of the long distance transport of cattle and sheep.  The publishing of the science behind the development of the model highlights the advances made by the Australian livestock export industry and allows the work to be peer reviewed from an international perspective.  These funds supported the writing of this paper.
