Summary

MLA completed detailed consultation to support development of the southern feedbase investment plan. A review of the 3 Program areas and a call for projects was undertaken. The  Program areas in the call were pasture breeding & evaluation, agronomy &  management and grazing systems. The review and project proposals required independent assessment. Three agreements were progressed for external review of the proposals.This summary applies to agreements B.PAS.00287B.PAS.0288 and B.PAS.0289. 


Project Description 
By 30 April, 2011 the project participated in a review team and: 
o Reviewed the narratives describing the past research output, gaps and opportunities in the area of pasture genetics, agronomy & management, grazing systems, based on the provided template 
o Reviewed the 3 pager project proposals submitted in the MLA project call across these 3 Program areas based on the provided template 
o Participated in a 2 day workshop in MLA on 30 and 31 March 2011, to participate in a presentation and subsequent review the proposed array of projects 
o Reviewed revised draft of the Program area, and when collated, the feedbase investment plan. 


Outcomes 
One hundred and forty project proposals were reviewed across the discipline areas of plant breeding, agronomy and nutrition, and grazing systems. Assessment was based on regional application, focus (eg pasture composition, management, general agronomy, new approaches, project methods). Where there was overlap between proponents and the work was desired, teams were formed to develop full proposals to assist providing geographic coverage for the project outputs.
