Summary

An essential role of the Live Export Program (LEP) in-market is to support Australian industry to mitigate animal welfare compliance issues and ensure favourable market access conditions. Creation of a single officially recognised program to address well established market risks and priorities (e.g. LGAP implementation) ensures these programs achieve greater adoption, impact, and there is an overall reduction in reactionary and ad hoc responses by industry.

LGAP is a key program identified by LiveCorp and MLA during the AIP process to underpin the animal welfare integrity of the livestock exported internationally. The program will facilitate adoption of the assurance program through working directly with AniMark to inform the implementation strategy and then connect with key stakeholders. It will support key exporters and importers understand the LGAP program and can see the benefits for their business.

Objectives

• LGAP Implementation – Work directly with AniMark to inform the implementation strategy and then connect with key stakeholders.
• Key exporters and importers understand the LGAP program and can see the benefits for their business.
• Determine barriers to adoption and drive the LGAP program to ground.

The proposal itself is the adoption element of LGAP/AniMark. Success of this proposal is that LGAP is successfully adopted in Vietnam. It will allow us to focus specific resources into ensuring accurate and consistent LGAP communication to stakeholders overseas.

Key findings

No further findings. LGAP not implemented by industry.

Benefits to industry

  • LGAP will have been provided adequate support to be adopted by key stakeholders in AniMark designated markets.
  • AniMark relies on insights, relationships, or mitigating strategies provided by the LEP to result in successful program implementation.
  • Key supply chains and influencers can see how the system works and validate any preconceptions through practical trials rather than through theoretical discussions. Allows implementation program to be more adaptive and agile than trying to implement an untested program with sceptical stakeholders.
  • Development of successful use cases and changing the system before it is implemented will ensure greater adoption.
