Summary

Israel is the largest cattle market in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and, on average, represents around half the value of the livestock export trade to the MENA region.
Over the past five years there has been a rise in opposition to the livestock importation trade by Israeli animal welfare activists and subsequently political allies. This opposition has positioned sustainability of the trade very precariously with a strong likelihood that without action the trade will be banned.
To address this threat, insights and direction were delivered from this body of work to give industry the best chance of effectively coordinating efforts to maintain market access.

Objectives

• Produce an informed strategy and direction for how to maintain market access in Israel
• Increase insights/knowledge of how livestock importation legislation is managed in Israel
• Maintain market access based on future work derived from the strategy.
