V.ISC.2106 - Phase 1: Scoping for a common approach or process to regional benchmarking

MLA and ISC are stewards of several industry datasets - including NLIS, LPA, MSA, Market Information and Sheep Genetics.

Summary

ISC is wanting to understand how different industry datasets can be benchmarked to provide industry with powerful insights to help make informed business decisions to improve productivity and profitability. There is currently a number of challenges with benchmarking different industry datasets. The purpose of this project is to assess and determine whether a common framework can be applied for benchmarking across the array of industry datasets. This is the scoping and discovery phase that will provide the groundwork for future development and testing phases.

Objectives

1. To determine the available datasets, including their availability, for meaningful industry benchmarking.
2. To determine the opportunities, viability and limitations to providing a common approach for benchmarking across different datasets.
3. To validate the data through definitions of datasets and algorithms that may be required to be applied when benchmarking.
4. To determine industry stakeholders’ key research question about the datasets that benchmarking maybe able to answer.
5. Provide a final report that outlines the key pieces of work completed under the project and the list of recommendations of research questions that key stakeholders are keen to resolve from a benchmarking perspective.
