Summary

The MLA Genetics Hub (genetics.mla.com.au) provides commercial producers with clear and simple support on how genetics can accelerate their productivity, and has engaged 23,019 viewers to date. Since its launch in 2019, there have been significant advancements in the beef cattle genetic tools available. This project will create three new videos on the new beef tools and update five existing videos to reflect changes in the BREEDPLAN website and search functions. This work will uphold the reputation of the MLA Genetics Hub website as a trusted up-to-date source of information and reduce the risk of misinformation on the new tools available.

Objectives

This project will:
1. Update the five existing genetics hub videos, and
2. Create the following three new videos on the tools and how they are used:
* Herd profiling for tropically adapted breeds
* Genomic breeding values (GBVs) for tropically adapted breeds; and
* Beef tools overview and use.

The videos will be produced with a range of still pictures (including photographs), animated graphics, video footage of navigation of websites, existing MLA footage and narration.

Benefits to industry

Updating the pre-existing videos will uphold the reputation of the MLA Genetics hub as a trusted and up-to-date source of information and reduce the risk of misinformation on the new tools available.

The target audience is commercial producers who are relatively new to BREEDPLAN and Sheep Genetics. The secondary audience are commercial producers who are already using breeding values. These new videos will be the first point of information and education for producers.

MLA action

The videos produced from this project will be available at https://www.genetics.mla.com.au/. MLA continually invest in enhancing the available tools and creating new tools that are readily available to producers.
