L.PGS.2028 | PGS Delivery Satellite Assisted Forage Budgeting

Did you know, the PGS Satellite Assisted Forage Budgeting package upskills producers in utilising satellite imagery to develop grazing budgets on a large scale?

Project start date: 14 July 2020
Project end date: 14 June 2022
Publication date: 16 May 2023
Project status: Completed
Livestock species: Grass-fed Cattle, Sheep, Lamb
Relevant regions: Queensland

Summary

Profitable Grazing Systems (PGS) was designed to overcome production barriers through the use of 'supported learning' methodology where small groups of producers work with a dedicated coach to learn, practice and implement new skills relevant to their business.

This package will better align stocking rates with seasonal carrying capacity by upskilling and supporting rangeland
producers to apply an integrated combination of traditional on-ground methods and satellite remote
sensing for forage budgeting and ground cover monitoring on their properties.

Objectives

The objectives of the project are as follows:
Delivery of approved supported learning package – Satellite Assisted Forage Budgeting.

Feedbase topics:

  • managing seasonal variability
  • optimal feed utilisation
  • optimise feed grown
  • identify gaps and take appropriate action.

The objectives of the project:

  • Better align stocking rates with seasonal carrying capacity by upskilling and supporting rangeland producers to apply an integrated combination of traditional on-ground methods and satellite remote sensing for forage budgeting and ground cover monitoring on their properties.

The SLP will run over approximately 12 months
Location:

  • Queensland and Northern Territory properties
All content and IP has been developed and owned by Ecorich Grazing and Cibo Labs.

Benefits to industry

The purpose of the delivery program is to overcome production barrier in pasture management by using small groups of producer-coach training methods to learn, practice and implement new skills to their business.
