Summary
The purpose of the project is to evaluate, design and build options for a livestock compliance and producer feedback management system to improve quality and consistency of supply and increase livestock margins.
Objectives
Develop a producer feedback portal to analyse livestock performance and build producer loyalty.
- Develop a livestock buyer portal to analyse livestock performance leveraging JBS and externally available data.
- Develop and deliver an adoption strategy to support the use of feedback along the supply chain through utilising JBS livestock buyers.
- Share de-identified data to the ISC Data Platform to support greater industry insights and benchmarking and utilise industry data through ISC to improve JBS’ own benchmarking ability. This includes, but is not limited to, animal disease and defect data, carcass compliance and MSA.
Key findings
The project was run through an agile design methodology to support a fast and flexible approach to the design of the portal and dashboards. The project went through an initial design and scoping phase to deliver an initial prototype that was piloted at Beef Week 2021. In order to take the protype through to a viable end product the development process needed to be flexible and respond to the available resources, producer and buyer feedback and management requirements.
Benefits to industry
The portal feedback system outlines the performance of animals in a clear and structured format, making it simpler for producers to access information that will allow for increased performance. The grid analysis creates an initial single benchmarking system which does not fluctuate with pricing grids allowing producers to aim for optimal weight ranges and grid targets.
MLA action
Once the future feedback system has been developed and released, MLA is to contact JBS to ensure data is shared back to the ISC Data Platform to support greater industry insights and benchmarking and utilise industry data through ISC to improve JBS’ own benchmarking ability. This includes, but is not limited to, animal disease and defect data, carcass compliance and MSA.
Future research
While the portal and dashboards have been implemented, the portal will continue to evolve as the business expands the user base. JBS will continue to investigate opportunities to incorporate additional data and look to build machine learning and advanced analytics over time.
