W.IAW.2302 - Indonesia Biosecurity Support - Risk Assessment

Building biosecurity support in Indonesia is a priority for Australian industry and government.

Project start date: 12 September 2022
Project end date: 30 June 2023
Publication date: 11 March 2024
Project status: Completed
Livestock species: Grass-fed Cattle
Relevant regions: International

Summary

With no existing Indonesia government capacity to compensate its livestock sector for implementing a culling-based disease eradication program, the Indonesian government will be relying upon biosecurity measures and vaccination programs to initially control and eventually eradicate LSD and FMD. This approach will take years with no guarantee that either disease will ultimately be eradicated.

Objectives

This project will facilitate short term strategies and measures that will help support immediate biosecurity needs in market.

Key findings

Biosecurity risk in Indonesia was assessed and recommendations made to support measures to mitigate risk.

Benefits to industry

Increased biosecurity capacity in Indonesian feedlots enables the live cattle trade to continue without disruption.
