Goatmeat exports ease in 2015

Australian goat exports in December declined 7% on the corresponding period the previous year, to 2,865 tonnes swt (Department of Agriculture and Water Resources).

December shipments brought the 2015 total to 29,965 tonnes swt – a decrease of 16% year-on-year. The overall drop was underpinned by lower volumes to most of the major destinations in 2015, compared to the previous year, with exports to:

  • US – down 8%, to 17,626 tonnes swt
  • Taiwan – down 27%, to 3,721 tonnes swt
  • Canada – down 22%, to 1,720 tonnes swt
  • Trinidad and Tobago – down 3%, to1,719 tonnes swt
  • Korea – up 10%, to 1,677 tonnes swt

In contrast, live goat exports lifted 4% year-on-year for the January to November period in 2015, to 84,261 head. Shipments to Malaysia increased 5% on last year’s levels, to 79,977 head, while exports to the UAE and Brunei increased to 2,251 head and 1,000 head, respectively.
