AMS webinars to launch e-learning modules

Australian lot feeders will soon have access to free online learning modules to help them develop antimicrobial stewardship plans for their feedlots.
The modules, developed by MLA in consultation with Australian Lot Feeders’ Association (ALFA), will be launched later this month on the ALFA and MLA websites to complement the release of the Antimicrobial stewardship guidelines for the Australian cattle feedlot industry.
Feedlot managers and other industry stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the two-part webinar being held on 28 March and 4 April from 11am to 12 noon (Australian Eastern Standard Time), to work through the Guidelines, see a demonstration of how the online modules work and learn how to develop an antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) plan.
The webinars will be hosted by respected industry veterinarian, Dr Kev Sullivan, Bell Veterinary Services, and ALFA-MLA Technical Services Officer, Jeff House and are proudly sponsored by ALFA Platinum Member, Zoetis.

ALFA President Bryce Camm said the webinars were an ideal opportunity to speak directly with industry experts on the issue of antimicrobial resistance and see the new modules in action.
“Part one of the two-part webinar will explain antimicrobial resistance and stewardship, what ALFA and MLA are doing in this space, and the 5R framework of antimicrobial stewardship,” Bryce said.
“Part two will cover how to develop an antimicrobial stewardship plan for your feedlot and introduce participants to the online learning tools with a live demonstration.”
The webinar recordings will then be made available to view post-webinar.
“The Australian cattle feedlot industry is dedicated to preserving the effectiveness of antimicrobials, and to protecting human and animal health, by promoting responsible antimicrobial use,” Bryce said.
“The Guidelines and the new online learning modules are aimed at helping reduce the risk of antimicrobial resistance and safeguarding the use of these important animal health tools well into the future.”
