MLA’s popular BeefUp forum returns to the Pilbara

24 April 2024

On 23 and 24 May 2024, Meat & Livestock Australia’s (MLA) popular BeefUp forum will run in Newman and Roy Hill in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.

The BeefUp forum, brought to the region by MLA, Western Australian Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) and the Kimberley Pilbara Cattlemen's Association (KPCA) rovides a chance for producers, advisors, researchers and other experts to come together to share information and ideas to support the continued growth of beef businesses throughout northern Western Australia.

Each program features a unique agenda, covering topics that are most relevant to local producers through presentations, demonstrations, and Q&A-style discussions.

Group Manager - Productivity & Animal Wellbeing, David Beatty, said this BeefUp forum was specifically designed for producers in the Kimberley region.

“In conjunction with the producer-driven Pilbara Regional Beef Research Committee, these BeefUp forums have been designed by producers in order to cover key topics for Pilbara pastoral businesses,” Dr Beatty said.

“These include discussing seasonal strategies and production drivers, all things new in ag-tech and hearing the latest on emerging export markets in South-East Asia.

“There will also be a strong focus on carbon and nature-based markets, as well as hearing about all the programs, tools and resources available for producers based in the Pilbara.”

Experts and producers from across Western Australia and northern Australia will share the latest information on research and development as well as programs and services for the red meat industry. The event will provide plenty of opportunity for attendees and presenters to exchange information and network.

The forum will take place across two days, with both days commencing from 10:30am. Day 1 will take place at Newman Shire Hall and Day 2 will be at Roy Hill Station.

This event follows the highly successful BeefUp forum held in Fitzroy Crossing in early March which was attended by 50 producers.

The average satisfaction score was 9.1/10 and value rating 8.6/10, with the most highly rated sessions being the presentation on managing variable seasons, producer ag-tech panel, R&D update and Harvest Road presentation.
