Register for the ‘Goat industry need to know’ webinar

‘Goat industry need to know’ is the focus of the next webinar in MLA’s Goat Roadshow series, covering the industry’s governance, tag requirements, animal movements, animal health and the distribution and use of the goat levy.

The webinar will feature an overview of the Goat Industry Council of Australia (GICA) and MLA’s goat industry research and development adoption council (GIRDAC) and their responsibilities, different tag requirements between systems, the collection and use of the goat levy and animal health including WormBoss.

Topic 1 – Structure of the goat industry: John Falkenhagen, President GICA, and Katie Davies, Vice President and Secretary, GICA, will provide an overview of GICA and GIRDAC and what they are responsible for, before explaining the requirements for tags (including the differences between harvested rangeland and semi-managed rangeland systems) and the movement of animals.

Topic 2 – Insight into the goat levy: The goat levy supports research, development and extension as well as services and best practice information to producers to help secure a future as innovative,

profitable and resilient world leaders in goat production. Katie Davies will detail the levy and how it is collected and distributed. Industry representatives who receive a portion of the levy will briefly outline their role.

Topic 3 – Animal health: Dawbuts veterinary consultant Matt Playford will outline the use of WormBoss to implement an effective integrated worm control program and manage drench resistance. He will also discuss the importance of the vet/producer relationship to ensure safe and responsible chemical usage in the goat industry.

The webinar will be hosted by MLA Project Manager – Sheep and Goat Productivity, Dr Melanie Smith.
